Pet Stain Carpet Cleaning Tips

Have pet stain and odor problems in your home? If so, here is some information to help you solve pet stain and odor problems. You have probably tried just about everything to rid your home of the contamination and odor. But, it probably did not work! The reason is because there is too much bacteria and damage caused from the pet stain. Do not forget about the 3-4 months the bacteria has been growing in your carpet and padding without treatment.

Factors to consider when removing pet stains and odor from your home:

Severity of Damage: Urine is comprised of a concentration of waste products such as urea, urine acid, sodium chloride and other detoxified substances. The ammonia smell comes from decaying urine, urine salts and the bacteria. The odor will also contaminate your clothing and furniture. If the yellowing is severe then your solution will need to be drastic!

Length of Time: If the stains have been left alone long enough for the ammonia smell to begin then that is too long! At this point, the urine has started to decay and the bacteria have grown in your carpet and padding.

Environment: Your home environment and cleanliness will also affect the outcome of the pet stain and odor removal process. Why? The reason is because a unclean home means more bacteria in other areas, therefore contributing to the overall scope of bacteria feeding on decaying matter such as pet dander, food and drink contamination.

Vacuuming: You should vacuum two times a week. If not, your carpet is more likely to begin bacterial growth. Bacteria thrive on the dander (dead skin) that you and your pets continuously shed. Be sure to change your vacuum bag 1-2 times per month because mold spores can begin to grow inside your vacuum bag.

Dangers: This is where most "Do It Yourself" attempts fail! Understanding your problem will help in deriving a solution that works. You must use the proper chemicals on pet stains to rid the odor. If not, you will have wasted time and money! Be sure to read the warning labels before using the product.

Patience: This is one of the most important factors to your success. Everyone wants an instant solution, but this is not possible with these types of stains.

Thorough Household Cleaning: You contaminate every room you walk through with bacteria from your shoes. Ensure your success by following these steps: Have your furniture steam cleaned. Wash all your clothes to rid them of any pet odors. Be sure to clean your floors, bathrooms and counter tops to rid them of any bacteria.

These factors affect the outcome of your hard work! Your pet stain problem will never get better until all the bacteria have been removed from your home. If not, the bacteria will continue to grow. If you choose to remove pet odor & urine yourself here are some tips.

1. If you don't know where the stains are, you will need a special backlight that will detect all of your urine stains. These lights can typically be purchased from a carpet cleaning Supply Company. They are expensive.

2. In most cases, you will need to pull up the carpet and replace the bad padding. In some cases you might need to replace the carpet padding of the entire room. In severe cases the sub-floor may also need to be sealed. Also, the sub-floor should be treated with an anti-bacterial solution.

3. Now you will need to clean the backside of the carpet. The recommended way to do this is with hot water extraction and mixing an anti-bacterial solution in with the water.

4. Finally, at this point you should clean the top-side of the carpet thoroughly! Hot water extraction is recommended to clean your carpet. If your carpet has been severely saturated with urine over long periods of time it might need to be replaced.

Unfortunately, it is not an easy task! But, with some hard work and dedication your efforts will pay off and the benefits will be great! If all fails, contact a professional carpet cleaning company. Good luck!
